The Western Union Foundation Global Scholarship Program (WU Scholars)

The Western Union Foundation Global Scholarship Program (WU Scholars) believes in empowering young minds to shape the future. It is an aid program that is set up to assist and support young and vibrant students across the globe to fund their post-secondary school education. It is designed and targeted toward supporting students from poor struggling countries to study in Australia, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

The selected scholarship winner will be awarded the sum of US $2500 to help support the student in paying tuition fees. It will not only cover tuition fees but also health insurance schemes, books, and other study materials, housing, and other cost of living expenses incurred in the process of studying.

Most Western Union Scholars’ applications are considered also based on their academic results, students with academic drives and motivations, and most especially, those with financial needs. The scholarship funding institutes should know the academic standing of the students. Requirements For The Western Union Scholarship

To be eligible for the Western Union Foundation Global Scholarship Program (WU Scholars), the applicants should be aware that it is restricted only to students who are in a specific field of study. If you wish to study any of the following courses listed below, then you qualify for the program.

Note that the program is only open for the following fields of study: Biology/ Life sciences, Mathematics, Computer and Information Management, Engineering, Health Professional, Business Management, Aviation, Nursing, Dental/Orthodontics, Medicine and Surgery, Library and Information Science, and Nutrition.

The Western Union Foundation Global Scholarship Program: Eligibility Status

The Western Union Global Foundation works hand in hand with the Institute of International Education to access the applicants before making nominations. Applicants must ensure that they qualify for the Eligibility Status of the Western Union Foundation Scholarship Program before they send in their review applications. The following are the eligibility criteria to be aware of before making applications:

  • The students must be an international student who is currently studying in Australia, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom
  • The applicant must be seeking for an undergraduate degree course in any of the listed fields of study
  • All applicants must be within the age range of 18-26 years of age before the Western Union Global program can be able to consider the candidate.
  • The applicant must be an international student with either a permanent residence or a study permit in any of the countries listed above.
  • The applicant must be studying in any of the accredited universities or higher institutions in any of the mentioned countries before making the application.

How To Apply For The Western Union Scholarship

To apply for the Western Union Global Scholarship program, the applicants should first of all be aware of the standards of the program, especially in terms of the eligibility criteria. The application process has been made easier, unlike the previous years when many applicants complained of server downtime on the Western Union Foundation site.

Currently, all bug issues have been fixed and their site is back and running smoothly. The following procedures should be followed when making applications:

  • Log on to the Western Union Foundation Scholarship portal and create an account to start a new application for first time users. Make sure you use your correct personal details that match correctly with your official documents.
  • The applicant will choose from the options listed after creating an account. There are two scholarship types present in the portal. The first one is the scholarship for under-graduate studies while the other one is for post-graduate courses.
  • Once you have chosen the category that you want to apply for then you can go ahead with your application process.

Other Required Criteria For Application

There are other requirements that the candidates need to possess in other to be able to get accepted into the scholarship program. The following criteria should be put into consideration when making an application:

  • The applicants should be aware that the application should be submitted in English Language. Applicants from non-native English-speaking countries can make use of translation services for their application submissions. You should also be aware that you will not be penalized for some basic errors.
  • The applicant must show proof of admittance into an accredited tertiary institution.
  • The applicants should note that the scholarship award should not be used for any advanced degree program other than an undergraduate degree.

  • This is also a general announcement that employees of the Western Union Foundations are not allowed or eligible to partake in the scholarship program. All employed members and their respective family members are excluded and therefore do not meet the criteria for the scholarship.
